Our labels carry exactly one mark: Made on Merit.

Made on Merit means every ingredient has earned its place in the formula. We choose ingredients for their proven performance, then source them as responsibly as possible — creating products that absorb easily, nourish deeply, and provide real, lasting care for your skin. That’s the whole promise. The rest of this page is what it took to keep it.

What merit means in practice

Every formula we make starts with a job description. Dry cuticles need nourishment that arrives easily and stays put; hard-working hands need a layer that holds through washing. Then each candidate ingredient has to argue for itself against that job.

Jojoba earned its place as the base — light, skin-friendly, proven — the same reason it’s the backbone of the whole category. Apricot kernel earned its place by getting everything else in faster and more fully; pomegranate seed earned its place by bringing the richness a jojoba-only bottle can’t. Vitamin E keeps the oils fresh. And ultra-refined lanolin — liquid in the oils, the base of the all over balm — earned the anchor position, because nothing else in skin care penetrates into the skin and holds moisture and nourishment there quite so stubbornly. Even petrolatum, the least glamorous name on the balm label, is there on merit: it seals.

No ingredient gets in for sounding good, and none gets excluded for sounding bad. Performance in, decoration out.

Lanolin, and what follows from it

Lanolin is in every one of our formulas because nothing from a plant does its job: it sinks into the outer skin and holds the seed oils there between washes. Ours is the ultra-refined grade, the purest there is. That is why it goes in every bottle.

Grade matters here. Lanolin comes in grades, and most of them still smell like the sheep. Ours is ultra-refined, USP grade: odorless, with the fractions that cause reactions refined out. We tried the options and were selective about it. The one in the bottle is the one that earned its place.

Every ingredient has to earn its place. Lanolin earned the anchor.

A mark that has to keep being true

Made on Merit commits us to something specific: every single ingredient has to justify itself, formula by formula, and we explain each one by name, lanolin, petrolatum, and beeswax included, on the formula page and on every product page.

A badge that never costs the brand anything can’t tell you much. One that has to keep being true to keep working can.

Where you’ll find it

The mark is printed on our labels, and the thinking behind it runs through everything else we make — the balm that refused to stay a cuticle product, the tools we build for the salons, shops, and creators who carry the line. One bar, applied everywhere: earn your place, or you’re not in the formula.
